EIF’s National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (NCCRA) is dedicated to the eradication of colorectal cancer by promoting the importance of early medical screening and funding research to develop better tests, treatments, and ultimately a cure.  The initiative was co-founded in March of 2000 by Katie Couric, Lilly Tartikoff, and EIF.

Does Your State Make The Grade?

Does Your State Make The Grade?

Check out the Colorectal Cancer Screening Legislation Report Card.

EIF’s National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance teamed up with a coalition of cancer prevention and medical organizations, including the American Cancer Society, American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and others, to issue an annual colorectal cancer report card that provides consumers with a quick snapshot of whether their states require insurers to cover the cost of screening. Now entering its seventh year, the Colorectal Cancer Legislation Report Card initiative continues to make an impact - galvanizing the most influential organizations in the fight against colon cancer in order to generate crucial awareness of the importance of screening, and to affect the legislative landscape in a long list of states.

When the Report Card Initiative began in 2004, 18 states had passed screening legislation. As of 2010, 29 states and the District of Columbia have passed legislation. Recent data from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) attributed increasing colorectal cancer screening rates in part to state laws requiring private insurers to cover screenings.
