EIF and Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup, 2024

FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

Dear Friends,

In May, I joined our EIF Careers Program team for the inaugural Careers in Entertainment Expo. Held at Los Angeles’ Expo Park, the event drew nearly 1,500 high school students, college students, and young adults, all eager and excited to learn how to pursue a career in entertainment.

IATSE Hollywood Locals engaged the attendees to learn about union pathways in entertainment crafts, while workforce and training programs introduced the group to early career-building programs to gain entry into the industry. The Expo brought together 35 exhibitors who led the attendees in resume-building and portfolio reviews while sharing genuine enthusiasm about their work.

Thank you to all who joined and supported the Expo by donating your time, energy and funding. It was a memorable experience for the young people of Los Angeles.

PHILANTHROPIC PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
OLIVIA RODRIGO’S FUND 4 GOOD SUPPORTS REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH FREEDOM

GRAMMY Award winner Olivia Rodrigo launched Fund 4 Good, a global initiative committed to building an equitable and just future for all women, girls and people seeking reproductive health freedom. A portion of proceeds from her successful worldwide GUTS tour will benefit the fund.

During her U.S. tour, Olivia is partnering with local chapters of the National Network of Abortion Funds to ensure those most impacted by systemic racism, misogyny, and healthcare barriers can get the reproductive care they deserve.

The Canadian leg of the tour benefits Women’s Shelters Canada, which brings together 16 provincial and territorial shelter organizations and supports over 600 shelters across the country for women and children fleeing violence.

Her recently completed European dates support Women Against Violence Europe. WAVE’s mission is to enable all women and their children to live free from violence.

We wish Olivia well on her continued U.S. tour, as well as in Australia and Asia!

HELP SAVE THE SIGHT OF SOMEONE YOU LOVE

The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative launched its first PSA campaign, The Sight You Save May Be That of Someone You Love.

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker James Keach directed the PSA, which will run for one year.

Created to honor the iconic actress Mary Tyler Moore, MTM Vision seeks to make Mary’s dream of a world without vision loss and blindness from diabetes come true. The Sight You Save May Be That of Someone Your Love educates the public about the critical need for medical research to find ways to better treat and cure diabetic retinal disease (DRD) and related vision loss and blindness from diabetes. Today, more than 530 million people worldwide with diabetes are at risk for DRD.

Live Free 999 Speaking Engagement, Carmela Wallace

PSA SPOTLIGHT
HIS NAME WAS JARAD

Carmela Wallace, who founded the nonprofit Live Free 999 to honor her son Jarad “Juice WRLD” Higgins, released a national PSA, His Name Was Jarad, highlighting her story and encouraging those in need to reach out to Live Free 999 and Crisis Text Line for mental health support. Through the PSA and accompanying media tour, Carmela and Live Free 999 aim to normalize the conversation around mental health and substance dependency.

In His Name Was Jarad, Wallace shares the story of her son, who released four studio albums, nine EPs, two mixtapes, 35 singles and is one of the most streamed artists ever. When Jarad died of an accidental drug overdose, Wallace turned her pain into purpose by founding Live Free 999. Live Free 999’s mission is to steer individuals away from the grips of substance dependency and offer vital support for mental health challenges.

The PSA encourages those in need to text LF999 to 741741 to connect with a Crisis Text Line volunteer crisis counselor.
